What’s inside the jars…..
The set includes six jars, each with a different native wildflower:
- Cornflower (bright blue) — up to 90 cm tall; flowers between June and August.
- Meadow Buttercup — often found in British meadows, thriving in moist soil; flowers April to October.
- Corn Chamomile — daisy-like flowers, loved by pollinators, flowers May to August.
- Corn Marigold — cheerful golden-yellow flowers, flowers (June–October).
- Common Poppy — bright red and iconic, flowers (May–July).
- Forget-me-not — lovely blue (sometimes some pink) tiny flowers, flowers April to October.
How the Wildflower Jars work — simple gardening!
Each seed ball is made in the UK (London) by combining UK sustainable sourced wildflower seeds with clay, peat-free compost, and a bit of chilli powder (a natural deterrent to slugs, snails and seed-eating bugs).
How to plant:
- Scatter the seed balls on top of soil or compost — no digging required.
- Make sure to leave about 10 cm between each ball to give seedlings enough space.
- Best times to scatter: autumn or spring — when cooler, wetter weather gives seeds the best shot at germination.
- Once water (rain or watering) softens the clay casing, the seeds can germinate. Usually you’ll see sprouts within 4–6 weeks. But do be patient as native wildflower seeds are not as predictable as those bred for garden centres!
Once established, the wildflowers mostly look after themselves. Over time, they’ll grow into an abundant patch of flowering plants – supporting biodiversity year after year!

Tips to get the most from your Wildflower Jars
- Pick a sunny or partially sunny spot — most wildflowers love good light.
- Water regularly if rainfall is light, especially in the first few weeks to aid germination.
- Be patient — wildflowers don’t always flower immediately. Some may take until next year to really flourish, but once they do they’ll often return, year after year.
- Consider mixing the jars across multiple pots or garden beds: the variety will give a more natural, meadow-like look rather than neat rows.
- After flowering, leave the seed heads to dry — they can drop seeds and further support wildlife by creating food and habitat for over winter and reseed themselves, helping the display return next year.
